An opportunity to explore Himalayan Wisdom

This three day non-residential workshop with Bhola Banstola will introduce you to the ancient cosmology and traditional methods of the Nepalese shaman or Jhankri. Using stories, myths, journeys, ceremonies, dance and group ritual, the participants will be guided to explore the five elements of creation, the three worlds and fourteen levels (tintri-lak chaudha bhuvana) of the Nepalese upper and lower spiritual realms. The 3 day experiential workshop will close by the receiving of a personal blessing, a sacred word or vowel and a five-coloured thread (pancha-rangi dhago) for harmony, peace, balance, joy and the raising of life forces for protection (Siir Uthaunu).

On this course you will learn

  • Learn about the male and female energies of the dhangro/drum and the unique rhythms the Jhankri uses in his/her work.
  • Explore the elements of the shaman’s costume (jala-mala, jama-pagari)
  • Learn the traditional way an altar (thaan) is prepared and experience the art of making offerings (chadaunau)
  • Learn about Himalayan shamanic perspectives on disease and illness and an opportunity to perform and participate in Khadga Puja group ritual.
  • Journey to the cave behind the waterfall and enter the realm of Banjhankri, the Primordial Shaman.
  • Learn, through journeying, to face your limiting fears and move through them with the support of Vaya Dewa, the deity of Air.
Altar

During these three days you will learn about the male and female energies of the dhyangro/drum and the unique rhythms the Jhankri uses in his or her work. In-depth exploration of the elements of the shaman's costume [jala-mala, jama-pagari] the traditional way an altar [thaan] is prepared and the art of making offerings [chadaunu] will be experienced.

Traditional perspectives on disease and illness will be discussed and you will have an opportunity to perform and participate in Khadga Puja group ritual. During this ritual the group create a healing mandala, soul umbrella and use seven sacred grains in self healing processes.

The participants will have opportunities to journey to the cave behind the waterall and enter the realm of Banjhankri, the Primordial Shaman. You will meet his consort, the fierce Banjhankrini to be dismembered by her and so made ready to receive a shamanic empowerment. You will experience a healing from the Primordial Shaman and begin a journey to reconcile any imbalances within yourself, with your ancestors and with your community.

Empowered in this way, you will meet the Snow Leopard to face your limiting fears and move through them with the support of Vaya Dewa, the deity of the Air.

The three days experiential work will close by receiving personal blessing, a sacred word or vowel, a five-coloured thred [pancha-rangi dhago] for harmony, peace, blanace, joy, raising the life forces for protection. {Siir Uthaunu].
